JOHOR BARU: It was double joy for teacher Hassan Kasmuri who was recently selected as best teacher in his school and also as the state’s best police cadet.
Hassan, 49, who teaches Bahasa Malaysia at SMK Teluk Kerang in Pontian, was selected the best cadet in conjunction with the 204th Police Day celebrations.
“I have been a teacher for the past 20-years and joined as a cadet officer about 10-years ago and am an assistant superintendent. Juggling between both these jobs is not an easy task but it is all about time management,” he said, adding that he goes for training on Fridays and Saturdays.

He was among 75 police officers and personnel including members of the public who received recognition from Johor deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman.
For marine police Sergeant Major P. Singkaravellu, 49, this was the second time he received the best discipline award for the administrative category.
“I am honoured that I obtained the best discipline award for the second time and I will take this as an inspiration to work harder,” he said adding that he has been with the force for more than 30 years.
Sjn Mejar Singkaravellu said his best memories was when he was chosen to be part of the United Nation (UN) peace corps in Timor Leste three-years ago.
He added it was a difficult time when he was stationed there as riots occurred daily.
“Besides Malaysia, there were 48 other foreign countries present in Timor Leste and I made some good friends,” he said.
Meanwhile SAC I Jalaluddin said the state crime index recorded a drop of 1.8% or 1.55 cases from Jan to March this year.
“The state police also recorded a drop in street crime of 21% or 104 cases in the same period,” he said.
